Ullala Maha Vidyalaya (School ) , founded in 1947 by a well-known philanthropist in the South, Mr. Dayawansa Chandrasiri Hewavidana, is a popular school in Kamburupitiya with over 300 students today. However, due to the lack of funds from the government, the buildings of the school were in a dilapidated state for a long time.
Mr. Devsiri Hewavidana, who observed this when he came to Sri Lanka, decided to renovate the Ullala school buildings with his own personal funds . At his request, the Chairman of the UK Friends of Galle Foundation renovated several dilapidated buildings.
In a glorious Ceremony, the main school building, renamed as D C Hewavidana Conference Hall was handed over to students on the 16th of December , the birthday of Mr Devsiri. Even though it was a school holiday, all the students of the school , their parents, and several scholarship recipients of UKFG from other local schools were present at the event. The event’s chief guest was Mr. Sirisena Gamage, the Chairman of UK Friends of Galle . Children garlanded Mr Gamage and welcomed him to the school with applause and cheers. The Principal, Mr Nissanka Abeywickrama then greeted Mr. Gamage and the principals of the neighbouring schools who were present at his request on this special day. A student of the school, Nirosha Pramodhi entertained them with a welcome dance. A few other students from Ulalla and Mapalana schools enlivened the event with beautiful dances and singing performances. UKFG Scholar no 303 Maleesha Udayaganii made a Thank you speech and wished Mr. Devsiri a very Happy Birthday .
The Chief Guest of the event, Chairman Sirisena Gamage, explained the value of the noble work being done by Mr. Devsiri Hewavidana. It was clear to everyone through his speech that this effort by Mr. Devsiri to instill the virtues and wisdom of the children who will take charge of the future is a priceless asset not only for the present generation but also for the children who will take charge of the future. He also said that Mr. Devsiri Hewavidana and UKFG would hope to carry out many more such activities for the welfare of children in the future.
Not only the children of the school, but also Teacher Chandrani, who came from Mapalana College, spoke about Mr. Devsiri in a beautiful poem. The Principal and the teaching staff celebrated Mr. Devsiri Hewavidana’s birthday by cutting a beautiful cake while all the children sang Happy Birthday and wished him strength , good health, and more wealth for to do more charitable work at the school. At the end of the ceremony, children were treated to a sumptuous lunch and ice cream which was paid by Mr Devsiri
16/12/2024 could be considered as another special day written in the history pages of Ullala Maha Vidyalaya. The UKFriends Of Galle Foundation , which is always working to provide the best for the children today, is thinking about their future success, and its founder, Mr. Devsiri Hewavidana, will undoubtedly be blessed to implement this noble concept in the future.

උල්ලල විදුහලේ ඩී .සී. හේවාවිදාන නව සම්මන්ත්‍රණ ශාලාව විවෘතකිරීම.
දකුණේ ප්‍රසිද්ධය දානපතිවරයෙකුව සිටී දයාවංශ චන්ද්‍රසිරි හේවාවිදාන මහතා විසින් 1947 දී ආරම්භ කරන ලද උල්ලල මහා විද්‍යාලය අද ළමුන් 300කට අධික පිරිසක් අධ්‍යාපනය ලබන ජනප්‍රිය පාසැලකි. නමුත් රජයට මුදල් නොමැතිකම නිසා මෙම පාසලේ ගොඩනැගිලි බිත්ති බොහෝ කලක් තිස්සේ දුර්වර්ණව පැවතියේ ය. දොරවල් පැවතියේද කැඩී බිඳී ගොස් ය.
මෙය වරින් වර නිරීක්ෂණය කළ දෙව්සිරි හේවාවිදාන මහතා තම පෞද්ගලික මුදලින් උල්ලල පාසල් ගොඩනැගිලි ප්‍රතිසංස්කරණය කිරීමට තීරණය කළේය. එතුමාගේ ඉල්ලීම පරිදි ගාලු මිතුරු පදනමේ ගරු සභාපතිතුමා විසින් අබලන් වූ ගොඩනැගිලි කිහිපයක්ම අලුත් වැඩියා කොට තීන්ත ආලේප කරන ලදී.
ප්‍රතිසංස්කරණය කරන ලද නව ගොඩනැගිල්ල ඩී. සී. හේවාවිදාන සම්මන්ත්‍රණ ශාලාව වශයෙන් අලුතෙන් නම් කොටනම් කොට සිසු අයිතියට පැවරීමේ උත්සවයේ ප්‍රධාන අමුත්තා වූයේ ගාලු මිතුරු පදනමේ ගරු සභාපති සිරිසේන ගමගේ මැතිතුමාය. අලංකාර මල් කළඹකින් එතුමා පිළිගැනීමට නිශ්ශංක විදුහල්පතිතුමා ඇතුළු සිසු දරුවන් අමතක නොකළේය. පාසල් නිවාඩු දිනයක් වුවත් මෙම උත්සවයට පාසලේ සියලුම දරුවන් සහ ගාලු මිතුරු පදනමේ ශිෂ්‍යත්වලාභී වෙනත් පාසල්වල දරුවන් කිහිප දෙනෙකුට සහභාගී වී තිබූ අයුරු දැක ගැනීමට පුළුවන් වුණි. විදුහල්පතිතුමා විසින් ගමගේ මැතිතුමා ඇතුළු සහෝදර පාසල් වල විදුහල්පතිවරුන් පිළිගනු ලැබූ අතර පාසලේ නිරෝෂා ප්‍රමෝදි දියණිය පිළිගැනීමේ නර්තනයකින් ඔවුන් සතුටට පත් කළහ. ගාලු මිතුරු පදනමේ ශිෂ්‍යත්වලාභී දරුවන් විසින් අලංකාර වූ නර්තන සහ ගායන අංගවලින් උත්සව සභාව වර්ණවත් කරන ලදී. මලීෂා උමයාන්ජලී දියණිය ඉංග්‍රීසියෙන් කතාවක් පවත්වමින් දෙව්සිරි මහතාට වාසනාවන්ත උපන්දිනයකට සුබ පැතීය.
සභාවේ ප්‍රධාන ආරාධිත අමුත්තා වූ සභාපති සිරිසේන ගමගේ මහතා විසින් දෙව්සිරි හේවාවිදාන මහතා මෙම සිදුකරන උතුම් වූ කර්තව්‍යයන්ගේ වටිනාකම කොතෙක්ද යනවද ඉතා වටිනා වචන වලින් පැහැදිලි කර දෙන ලදී. වර්තමාන පරපුරට පමණක් නොව මතු අනාගතය බාරගන්නා දරුවන්ගේ ගුණ නුවණ පාදන්නට දෙව්සිරි මහතා දරන මෙම උත්සාහය අමිල සම්පතක් යන වග එතුමාගේ කතාව තුළින් සැමටම පැහැදිලි වූයේය. ඒ වගේම දෙව්සිරි හේවාවිදාන මහතා ඇතුළු ගාලු මිතුරු පදනම විසින් ඉදිරි කාලය තුළ ද දරුවන්ගේ සුභ සිද්ධිය සඳහා තවත් මෙවැනි කටයුතු විශාල ප්‍රමාණයක් සිදු කිරීමට බලාපොරොත්තු වන බවද එතුමා පැවසුවේය.
පාසලේ දරුවන්ගේ පමණක් නොව මාපලාන විදුහලෙන් පැමිණි චන්ද්‍රාණි ගුරුතුමිය විසින් දෙව්සිරි මහතා ගැන පැවසූයේ අලංකාර පද්‍ය පංතියකිනි.ගරු විදුහල්පතිතුමා ඇතුළු ආචාර්ය මණ්ඩලය විසින් දෙව්සිරි හේවාවිදාන මහතාගේ ජන්ම දිනය සැමරීමටද අමතක නොකළේය. පාසලේ ආචාර මණ්ඩලය සහ පැමිණ සියලු දෙනාම එකතු කරගනිමින් රසවත් වූ කේක් කපා එතුමාට තවත් වසර ගණනාවක් මෙවැනි කටයුතු කිරීමට ශක්තිය වාසනාව ලැබෙන ලෙස සුබ පැතීමට ද කටයුතු කළේය.
උත්සව කටයුතු අවසානයේදී පැමිණ සිටි 325 කට අධික පිරිසකට එතුමාගේ පෞද්ගලික ධනයෙන් ඉතා රසවත් ප්‍රණීත ආහාර වේලක් ලබා දීමටද කටයුතු කළේය. රසවත් වූ දිවා ආහාරය පරිභෝජනය කිරීමෙන් අනතුරුව සියලුම දෙනාට අයිස් ක්‍රීම් ලබාදීමටද කටයුතු කළේය. හිත සහ කුස දෙකම පුරවා ගත් සියලුම දෙනා එතුමාට ස්තුතියි කිරීමට අමතක නොකළේය.
මාර/ උල්ලල මහා විද්‍යාලයේ ඉතිහාස පිටු අතරට ලියැවෙන තවත් එක් සුවිශේෂී දිනයක් ලෙස 2024/12/16 වන දින හඳුන්වන්න පුලුවනි. දරුවන්ගේ මතු අනාගතයේ සාර්ථකත්වය ගැන සිතා වර්තමානයේ දරුවන්ට හොඳම දේ ලබා දීමට නිතරම කටයුතු කරන එක්සත් රාජධානියේ ගාලු මිතුරු පදනම සහ එහි නිර්මාතෘ දෙව්සිරි හේවාවිදාන මහතාගේ මෙම උදාර සංකල්පය මතුවටත් ක්‍රියාවට නැංවීමට එතුමන් ලබන මෙම පන්නරය ආශිර්වාදයක් වනබව නොඅනුමානය.
