One of the happiest days in a small child’s life is the day when he/she enrols to Garde 1 at a local school. Parents prepare for this big day weeks in advance. They have to spend a considerable amount of money to buy school uniform(s) and other essential items. Unfortunately, Srilanka is in serious financial crisis this year (2023): hence, many parents were unable to provide their little ones with these essential utilities.
The parents of the ten (10) new children who were about to be enrolled at Thumbe Junior School were desperate, because they did not have sufficient funds to buy the required school items for them. Then Mr. Priyantha, principal of Thumbe Junior School brought these parent’s plight to the attention of Mr. Devsiri and asked if UKFG could, at the least, offer them books.
So, Mr. Devsiri and Mr. Ananda Hewavidana went to the school with not only the books, but school bags, pens, pencils and various other essential stationery. They also provided free lunch for all the children on the admission day.
During the simple donation ceremony a few talented older students sang songs and performed beautiful dances to entertain the guests. In accepting the gifts, the school principal said that he was very grateful to Mr. Devsiri and UKFG for offering these gifts to his ten (10) new children. He explained that not only the little ones, but their parents were very happy because the donations had released a big weight off their shoulders. He also reminded of the first-ever donation that was made to this school in November 2017 by UKFG – the D C Hewavidana Library. He was very happy that his student’s recent examination results had improved vastly, because they all had been using this library. Mr. Priyantha also thanked Mr. Devsiri for the sumptuous lunch and ice cream they had provided for all the school children. Finally, he expressed his wish that UKFG would continue to help his students in order for Thumbe school to give them a better future.

තුඹේ පාසැලේ අලුත් දරුවන්ට තෑගි ගොඩක්
සෑම දෙමාපියෙකුගේම ජීවිතයේ සතුටුම දවස් වලින් එකක් ලෙස තම ආදරණීය දුව හෝ පුතා පාසලට යන පළමු දිනය හැඳින්විය හැකිය. ඔවුන් ඒ සඳහා සැරසෙන්නේ සති ගණනක සිටය. තම පුතා හෝ දුවට අවශ්‍ය පොත්පත් උපකරණ සපත්තු මිලදී ගෙන තම දරුවා පිලිවෙලට අඩුපාඩු නැතිව පාසලට ඇතුළු කිරීම සෑම දෙමාපියෙකුගේම සතුට වේ.
නමුත් වත්මන් ආර්ථික අර්බුදය නිසා ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ බොහෝ දෙමව්පියන්ට තම දරුවන්ට අවශ්‍ය පොත්පත් ඇතුළු අධ්‍යාපනික උපකරණ ගැනීම අසීරු කරුණක් වී තිබේ. තුඹේ කනිෂ්ඨ විද්‍යාලයට ද අලුතෙන් ඇතුළු වූ දරුවන් දහ දෙනාටත් එම ප්‍රශ්නයම තදින් බලපා ඇති බව විදුහල්පති ප්‍රියන්ත මහතා අප වෙත දැනුම් දෙන ලදී.
මෙම ඉල්ලීම ගැන අවධානය යොමු කල දෙව්සිරි හේවාවිදාන මහතා 1 ශ්‍රේණියට ඇතුලු වන තුඹේ විද්‍යාලයේ දරුවන් දස දෙනාටම පාසල් අධ්‍යාපනයට අවශ්‍ය සියළු උපකරණ එක්සත් රාජධානියේ ගාලු මිතුරු පදනම හරහා ලබා දීමට කටයුතු කළේය.
එම පරිත්‍යාගය සිදු කළ දවසේ දෙව්සිරි මහතා විසින් පාසැලේ සියලු ම දරුවන්ට දිවා ආහාරය හා අයිස්ක්‍රීම් ද සපයන ලදී.
පහතින් පෙනෙන්නේ බාලාංශ පන්තියට අලුතෙන් ඇතුළු වූ අහිංසක දරුවන්ට පොත්පත්, පෑන්, පැන්සල්,අඩි කෝදු, මකන කෑලි වතුර බෝතල් හා පාසල් බෑග් බෙදා දුන් අවස්ථාවේ එම දරුවන් ඉතා සතුටෙන් එම තෑගි ලබා ගන්නා දැක්වෙන ඡායාරූප සමූහයකි.
