UK Friends of Galle (UKFG ) charity representatives, Laksiri visited. Kamburupitiya and presented 500 packets of period towels to adolescent female pupils in five schools. This was another generous donation by Mr Neil & Mrs Hele Carson, Cambridge, UK
Period poverty’ means being unable to access sanitary products and having poor knowledge of menstruation often due to financial constraints. In Sri Lanka, the problem is particularly acute because sanitary products are so heavily taxed . Not having access to a safe and hygienic way to deal with menstruation can have profound consequences; particularly on a girl’s education. This has results in many school girls missing school three four days a month which greatly affect their academic progress
The children of the five schools which we have visited were ever so grateful to Carson family for the gift. If we could find more sponsors, we would like to repeat this donation every few months .

ගාලු මිතුරු පදනම සනීපාරක්ශක තුවා නොමිලේ බෙදා දෙයි
ශ්‍රී ලංකාව ඉතාමත් දරුණු ආර්ථික අර්බුදක් පවතින කාලයක දෙමාපියන්ට, අධ්‍යාපනය කෙසේ වෙතත් ආහාරයවත් ලබා දීමට නොහැකි තත්ත්වයක් උදා වී ඇත. තුන් වේලෙන් එක වේලක් ආහාර සපයාගන්නා පවුල්වල නව යොවුන් වියේ පසුවන ගැහැනු දරුවන්ට සනීපාරක්ෂක තුවා මිල දී ගැනීම ම සිහිනයකි. එම නිසා ඔසප් සමයේ දියණියන් බොහෝ විට පාසල් යන්නේ ද නැත. මේ නිසා ඔවුන්ගේ අධ්‍යාපනය අඩාල වන බව පැහැදිලි ය.
මෙවන් වකවානුවක 2022 ජනවාරි 19 දින එක්සත් රාජධානියේ ගාලු මිතුරු පදනමේ ඉල්ලීම පරිදි කඹුරුපිටියේ මාපලාන, ලේනබටුව, ඊරියතොට, තුඹේ, සපුගොඩ, කහගල යන පාසල් හයට එංගලන්තයේ කාසන් පවුල විසින් සනීපාරක්ෂක තුවා පිරිනමන ලදි. මේවා ලැබීමෙන් එම පාසල්වල දැරියන් ඉතාමත් සතුටට පත් වූ බව ඔවුන්ගේ අහිංසක සිනා තුළින් පෙනී යයි. එම අවිහින්සක සිනා තුළ සමාජයට කියාගත නොහැකි අහිංසක කතාවක් ද ඇත. මාපලාන විදුහලේ දරුවන් කොපමණ සතුටට පත් වූවා ද යත් ඒ මොහොතේ ම ඔවුන් සනීපාරක්ෂක තුවා පිරිනැමූ කාසන් පවුලට තම හදවතින් ම ස්තූතිය ප්‍රකාශ කළෝය . . වසර 18ක් පුරා දරුවන්ට උපකාර කරන ගාලු මිතුරු පදනම මගින් 2020 වසරේ දී ද පාසල් 10කට ද සනීපාරක්ෂක තුවා පිරිනමන ලදී.
