On 30th June 2023, Mr. Sirisena Gamage, chairman, UKFG ceremoniously hand over the new office building to the school principal Mr. Nissanka Abeywickrama. The total cost of the project was well over 15 Lakhs and it was funded entirely by Mr. Devsiri and Mrs. Ruvini Hewavidana in Memory of UKFG’s chief organizer and Mr. Devsiri’s brother, Mr. Laksiri Hewavidana who unfortunately passed away in April 2023.
The ceremony was graced by several Directors of Local Education Department in Mulatiyana District, Principals of nearby schools, recently retired teachers, old boys, parents and other provincial dignitaries.
Mr. Gamage and all the VIPs were garlanded at the school gate and were escorted to the premises by the school’s band playing beautiful music. Mr. Sirisena Gamage cut the ribbon at the auspicious time and handed over the key to the new office to Mr. Abeywickrama amid endless applause by the gathering.
UKFG Chairman Mr. Sirisena Gamage mentioned in his speech that Ullala school did not have a proper office for decades and the staff had nowhere to keep important documents like children’s birth certificates, school reports and attendance registers. He said, he was delighted that Mr. Devsiri and Ruvini Hewavidana stepped up to provide this dire need at his request. He said that Ullala school children were very lucky to receive the Neil Carson library, the Hannah Carson Badminton court, a projector & screen ,complete sound system, a photo copier, several computers and two safety walls and brand new shoes for all 300+ children, on three occasions in the past. Providing lunch for all the children for three months in 2022 was another added specialty by UKFG. He further highlighted that all UKFG wanted to see was Ullala children coming out in their O’ levels and A’ levels with flying colours.
School’s Principal, Mr. Abeywickrama In his response said that his staff and children highly appreciated everything Hewavidana family and Mr. Gamage had been doing for his school that was founded by late none other than late Mr. D. C. Hewavidana , the father of Mr. Devsiri and Mr. Laksiri. He thanked Mr. Gamage and Mr. Devsiri for the much-needed new office that they were longing for a long time.
Speaking at length, the principal Mr. Abeywickrama said that Ullala school was founded by Mr. Devsiri’s father, late Mr. Dayawansa Chandrasiri Hewavidana over 75 years ago, when he found that scores of children in this village did not go to school, because there was no school within a range of five miles. Eradicating the harm this would do to the future of these children, he set out to establishing Ullal School. His wish was to see an educated future generation in his village. Today Ullala Maha Vidyala has become one of the most sought-after schools in Kamburupitiya area. Over the last few decades, I am proud to say that my school has produced many engineers, doctors, legal luminaries and a countless number of businessmen.
“I am delighted to say that after Mr. D. C. Hewavidana passed away, his elder son Mr. Devsiri and his family took over his good charity work . They have done so much to help our school. Thanks to Mr. Devsiri’s UK Friends of Galle foundation, we now have a beautiful library, a badminton Court, two new safety Walls, computers, a projector, new books and many other equipment. Thanks to the Neil Carson library donated by Mr. Neil and Mrs. Helen Carson in England, my children have all the latest textbooks to study. As a result of their generous gift. I and delighted to say that our Grade 5, O’ level and A’ level exam results have improved tremendously.
“Today we are very lucky to receive a completely refurbished school office and a principal’s room built with the generous donation made by Mr. Devsiri and his family. On behalf of my children, staff and the parents I express my utmost gratitude to Mr. Sirisena Gamage and Hewavidana Family for looking after our school and making sure Ullala children have a better and bright tomorrow “

උල්ලල පාසලට නව කාර්යාලයක් සහ විදුහල්පති කාමරයක් පරිත්‍යාග කිරීම.
2023 ජුනි 30 වන දින එක්සත් රාජධානියේ ගාලු මිතුරු පදනමේ ගරු සභාපති සිරිසේන ගමගේ මහතා විසින් නව කාර්යාල ගොඩනැගිල්ල විදුහල්පති නිශ්ශංක අබේවික්‍රම මහතා වෙත උත්සවාකාරයෙන් භාර දෙන ලදී.
2023 අප්‍රේල් මාසයේදී හදිසියේ අභාවප්‍රාප්ත වූ UKFG හි ප්‍රධාන සංවිධායකතුමා සහ දෙව්සිරි මහතාගේ සහෝදරයා වන ලක්සිරි හේවාවිදාන මහතාට පින් පිණිස ව්‍යාපෘතියට වැයවූ රු.ලක්ශ 15 මුදල සම්පූර්ණයෙන් සපයන ලද්දේ දෙව්සිරි සහ රුවිනි හේවාවිදාන යුවළ විසිනි.
මුලටියන දිස්ත්‍රික්කයේ කොට්ඨාශ අධ්‍යාපන දෙපාර්තමේන්තුවේ අධ්‍යාපන සංවර්ධන අධ්‍යක්ෂක ජේ.ජේ සියසිංහ මහතා, සහකාර අධ්‍යාපන අධ්‍යක්ෂිකා ජේ.ඩබ් මයුරානි මහත්මිය, තුඹේ විදුහල්පති ආර්.ඩී ප්‍රියන්ත මහතා, මාපලාන විදුහල්පති සමන් මීගහවත්ත මහතා, කහගල විදුහල්පති සුරේෂ් චමින්ද යන මහත්වරුන් ද මෑතකදී පාසැලෙන් විශ්‍රාම ගිය ගුරුවරුන්ද, ආදි ශිෂ්‍යයින්, දෙමාපියන් සහ අනෙකුත් පළාතේ ප්‍රභූන්ද මෙම උත්සවයට සහභාගී වූහ.
ගමගේ මහතා ඇතුළු සියලුම ප්‍රභූවරුන් පාසල් ගේට්ටුව අභියසදී මල්මාලා පළඳවා පාසලේ තූර්ය වාදක කණ්ඩායමේ මනහර සංගීතය මධ්‍යයේ නව විදුහල් කාර්යාල ගොඩනැගිලි පරිශ්‍රය වෙත කැඳවාගෙන යන ලදී. සිරිසේන ගමගේ මහතා සුබ මොහොතින් පීත්ත පටිය කපා නව කාර්යාලයේ යතුර විදුහල්පති නිශ්ශංක අබේවික්‍රම මහතාට බාර දුන්නේ රැස්ව සිටි පිරිසේ නිමක් නැති අත්පොලසන් හඬ මධ්‍යයේය.
ගාලු මිතුරු පදනමේ සභාපති සිරිසේන ගමගේ මහතා සිය කතාවේදී සඳහන් කළේ උල්ලල පාසලට දශක ගණනාවක් තිස්සේ නිසි කාර්යාලයක් නොතිබූ බවත් දරුවන්ගේ උප්පැන්න සහතික, පාසල් වාර්තා, පැමිණීමේ ලේඛන වැනි වැදගත් ලියකියවිලි තබා ගැනීමට කාර්ය මණ්ඩලයට තැනක් නොතිබුන බවත්ය. දෙව්සිරි සහ රුවිනි හේවාවිදාන යුවළ තම ඉල්ලීම පරිදි පාසලට අත්‍යාවශ්‍යව තිබූ කාර්යාලය ලබාදීමට කටයුතු කිරීම පිළිබඳව තමන් ඉතා සතුටට පත්වන බවද එතුමා පැවසීය.
ල්නීල් කාර්සන් පුස්තකාලය, හැනා කාසන් බැඩ්මින්ටන් පිටිය, ප්‍රොජෙක්ටරයක් සහ තිරයක්, ඡායා පිටපත් යන්ත්‍රයක්, පරිගණක කිහිපයක් සහ ආරක්ෂිත බිත්ති දෙකක්, ශබ්ද විකාශන පද්ධතියක් සහ 300 ට වැඩි ළමුන් පිරිසක් සඳහා අලුත්ම පාවහන් අවස්ථා තුනකදී ලැබීමට උල්ලල පාසලේ දරුවන් ඉතා වාසනාවන්ත වූ බව එතුමා පැවසීය.
2022 දී පාසලේ සියලුම දරුවන්ට මාස පහක් දිවා ආහාරය සැපයීම ගාලු මිතුරු පදනම විසින් කරන ලද තවත් විශාල පරිත්‍යාගයකි. ගාලු මිතුරු පදනමට දැකීමට අවශ්‍ය වූයේ උල්ලල දරුවන් ඔවුන්ගේ අධ්‍යාපන මට්ටම් වලින් සහ අනෙකුත් විෂය භාර ක්‍රියාකාරකම් වලින් ඉහළින් දස්කම් පෑම බව එතුමා වැඩිදුරටත් අවධාරණය කළේය.
උල්ලල පාසලේ ගරු විදුහල්පති අබේවික්‍රම මහතා තම කතාව පවත්වමින් කියා සිටියේ දෙව්සිරි මහතාගේ පියා දිවංගත ඩී.සී.හේවාවිදාන මහතා විසින් ආරම්භ කරන ලද පාසල වෙනුවෙන් හේවාවිදාන පවුල සහ ගමගේ මහතා කරන සෑම දෙයක්ම තම කාර්ය මණ්ඩලය සහ දරුවන් ඉතා ඉහළින් අගය කරන බවයි.ලක්සිරි මහතා, ගමගේ මහතා සහ දෙව්සිරි මහතාට බොහෝ කලක සිට පාසලට පිරිනැමීමට අවශ්‍යව තිබූ නව කාර්යාලය ලබා දීම ගැන එතුමා තම බලවත් ස්තුතිය පල කළේය.
තවදුරටත් අදහස් දැක්වූ විදුහල්පති අබේවික්‍රම මහතා පැවසුවේ මීට වසර 75කට පමණ ඉහත දී මේ ගම්මානයේ ළමයි විශාල පිරිසක් පාසල් නොගොස් වතුවල රැකියාවට යන බව දැක කණගාටුවට පත් දෙව්සිරි මහතාගේ පියා දිවංගත දයාවංශ චන්ද්‍රසිරි හේවාවිදාන මහතා උල්ලල ගමෙන් උගත් අනාගත පරම්පරාවක් බිහිකිරීම සඳහා අති මහත් පරිශ්‍රමයකින් පසුව උල්ලල විද්‍යාලය ආරම්භ කළ බවයි. “අද උල්ලල මහා විද්‍යාලය කඹුරුපිටිය ප්‍රදේශයේ වැඩිම ඉල්ලුමක් ඇති පාසලක් බවට පත්ව ඇත. පසුගිය දශක කිහිපය තුළ මගේ පාසල ඉංජිනේරුවන්, වෛද්‍යවරුන්, නීති ක්ෂේත්‍රයේ ප්‍රවීණයන් සහ සමාජයේ උගත් රැකියා රැසක් කරන දරු පිරිසක් බිහි කළ බව මම ආඩම්බරයෙන් කියමි.”
“ඩී.සී. හේවාවිදාන මහතා අභාවප්‍රාප්ත වූ පසු ඔහුගේ වැඩිමහල් පුත් දෙව්සිරි මහතා සහ එතුමාගේ පවුලේ අය හේවාවිදාන මහතා ආරම්භ කළ යහපත් පුණ්‍ය කටයුත්ත වැඩි දියුණු කිරීම සඳහා දිගටම තම ධනය යොදවමින් සිටින බව කියන්නට සතුටුයි. එතුමන් අපේ පාසලට බොහෝ උපකාර කර තිබෙනවා. දෙව්සිරි මහතාගේ ගාලු මිතුරු පදනමට පින්සිදු වන්නට අපට දැන් අලංකාර පුස්තකාලයක්, බැඩ්මින්ටන් පිටියක්, නව ආරක්ෂිත බිත්ති දෙකක්, පරිගණක, ප්‍රොජෙක්ටරයක්, අලුත් පොත් සහ තවත් උපකරණ රැසක් තිබේ. එංගලන්තයේ නීල් කාසන් මහතා සහ හෙලන් කාර්සන් මහත්මිය විසින් පරිත්‍යාග කළ නීල් කාර්සන් පුස්තකාලය නිසා මගේ දරුවන්ට ඉගෙනීමට නවතම පෙළපොත් සියල්ල තිබේ. ඔවුන්ගේ ත්‍යාගශීලීත්වයේ ප්‍රතිපලයක් ලෙස අපගේ 5 ශ්‍රේණි ශිෂ්‍යත්ව, සා.පෙළ සහ උ.පෙළ මට්ටමේ විභාග ප්‍රතිඵල විශාල ලෙස දියුණු වී ඇති බව ඉතා සතුටු වෙමි. අද දෙව්සිරි මහතා ඇතුළු පවුලේ අයගේ නොමසුරු පරිත්‍යාගයෙන් සම්පුර්ණයෙන්ම නවීකරණය කරන ලද පාසල් කාර්යාලයක් සහ විදුහල්පති කාමරයක් ලැබීමට අපි වාසනාවන්ත වුනා. අපේ පාසල ගැන සොයා බලා උල්ලල දරුවන්ට වඩා හොඳ දීප්තිමත් හෙට දවසක් උදාකර දීමට කටයුතු කිරීම ගැන සිරිසේන ගමගේ මහතාට සහ හේවාවිදාන පවුලට මගේ දරුවන්, කාර්ය මණ්ඩලය සහ දෙමාපියන් වෙනුවෙන් මගේ කෘතඥතාව පළකරමි.”යි එතුමා තවදුරටත් ප්‍රකාශ කළේය.
සමාරම්භක උත්සවයෙන් පසු සියලුම අමුත්තන් ඉදිරියේ ළමුන් විසින් ගීත සහ අලංකාර නැටුම් රැසක් ඉදිරිපත් කරන ලදී. පාසැල් ගුරු මණ්ඩලය විසින් පැමිණි අමුත්තන් සියලු දෙනාටම ප්‍රණීත තේ පැන් සංග්‍රහයක්ද පිළිගන්වන ලදී. එම ප්‍රීතිමත් උත්සවයේදී ලබාගත් ඡායාරූප සමූහයක් පහතින් දැක්වේ.
